BROCTON - Brocton Central School is offering some adult education programs. Pre-registration is necessary and insures the class will be held.
New for the fall 2012 semester is a distance learning opportunity. The Fenton Historical Center series will be available at Brocton, Westfield and Cassadaga schools. Session 4 - Sunday, Oct. 23: War of 1812 in its bicentennial year; Short video of the War of 1812 in Chautauqua County; Impact of the War of 1812 in Chautauqua County; Guest presenter War of 1812 re-enactor Steve Johnson.
Session 5 - Sunday, Oct. 30: Early commerce, how water routes influenced settlement; Keel boats and Store boats; Rafting lumber to market in the South County; Sawmills and gristmills; Guest presenter Fenton History Center Collections Manager Norman Carlson.
Session 6 - Tuesday, Nov. 6: Underground Railroad in Chautauqua County; Guest presenter Fredonia Baptist Church Archivist Wendy Straight.
Hiking to Arkwright Falls - Saturday, Oct. 6, 10 a.m. Rain date Saturday, Oct. 13: People should dress for rough terrain and carry a lunch to be eaten at the falls. Steve Keefe will be the guide. The hike is about 6 miles round trip. It is a moderately difficult hike. People should be physically fit. There is some up and down terrain and possibly in the creek. Parking would be on Ball Rd., off of Miller Rd., in Pomfret. Along Ball Road there is a recessed area for parking. There is no cost. Email email@example.com or call 244-3122 if interested.

Walking for Wellness - Walking for Wellness is a free ongoing program for community members to walk in the Brocton School building Monday through Friday when school is in session from 5 to 7 p.m. Use the School St. entrance near the cafeteria. Route maps are just inside the door as well as walking logs.
