Westfield Senior Citizens

The Westfield Senior Citizens meet on the second Thursday of the month at the YWCA Westfield at 6 p.m.

Parkinson's support group at Absolut Care

The Absolut Care of Westfield's Parkinson's Disease Support Group Meeting is held the second Thursday of the month in the Absolut Care Activity Room from 4 to 5 p.m.

Gluten free program

A program titled "Gluten Free : Fad, Fact or Fiction" discussing a gluten free lifestyle will be held at the Ripley Free Library on Thursday, Sept. 13 and will be followed by a question and answer period.

Saturday, Sept. 15

Pig roast in Ripley

The Ripley United Methodist Church will hold a pig roast fundraiser at the church, 86 W. Main St., Ripley on Saturday, Sept. 15 from 4 to 6 p.m. The menu will include roasted pig, parsley potatoes, baked beans, applesauce, bread with butter, homemade pie and a beverage. The cost is $9 for adults and $5 for children ages 12 and under. Home delivery is also available by calling Cheryl Jones at 736-5791.

Wednesday, Sept. 19

Remember the 1940 era

The United Senior Council of Chautauqua County is holding a "Remember the 1940 Era" senior social on Wednesday, Sept. 19 at 3 p.m. at the Kiantone Fire Hall. Sit back and listen, or dance, to the big band sound by Tim Stockman. Enjoy a swiss steak dinner with all the fixings, and take a stroll down memory lane gazing at photos and remembering all the happenings in that era as well as inventions, music and famous people. A basket auction with many baskets and 50-50 tickets will be available as well. Reservations can be made by mailing check to Mary Himes at 25 Cherry Street, Frewsburg, N.Y. 14738 or call 569-6110. Cost is $11.

The United Senior Council is a non-profit organization providing services to the elderly via speakers, workshops and social events. It meets on the second Thursday of every month. For further information contact Vice-President Theresa Perrin at 665-2414.

Mayville Senior Citizens

The Mayville Senior Citizens Club meet on the first and third Thursdays of the month at the Mayville VFW at noon. All area seniors 55 or older are welcome. Bring a dish to pass and personal table service.

Friday, Sept. 21

Night at the Noble Winery

Night at the Noble Winery with Rob Vance will be held on Friday, Sept. 21 at 6 p.m. Tickets re now on sale at the Ripley Free Library and Noble Winery.

Saturday, Sept 22

Chicken and ribs barbecue

The 1891 Fredonia Opera House will hold a chicken and ribs barbecue fundraiser from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22, at the corner of Day and Church Streets as part of the Fredonia Farmers Market. All proceeds benefit the Opera House. BW's Smoking Barrels BBQ, a Taste of Buffalo award-winner, will provide the food for the event. Each meal includes chicken, ribs, chef salad, potato salad and a roll with butter. Tickets to the barbecue, $10 each, and a basket auction will be sold at the Farmers Market for three Saturdays leading up to the event and at the event.

Author Debra Chiron will speak on her new book, "My Paranormal Diary" at the Ripley Free Library on Thursday, Sept. 27 at 6 p.m. Book signing to follow.

Friday, Sept. 28

Quilting show

Quilting around Chautauqua will be held Friday, Sept. 28 through Sunday, Sept. 30 at Chautauqua Institution. The show is in its ninth year. There are more than 800 quilts on display and 60 plus vendors for the three-day show. Friday is the pre-class day and set-up day for vendors and quilt displays.

Classes will be offered by Marianne Fons and her daughter, Mary, from Fons and Porter, Love of Quilting TV show, Sue Hausmann from America Quilts Creatively and Mattie Rhoades, president and founder of the Quiltsmart Company

Dollhouse miniatures show and sale

The Western New York Miniature Enthusiasts will hold its 32nd annual show and sale of dollhouse miniatures on Sunday Sept. 20 at Hearthstone Manor, 333 Dick Road in Depew, N.Y. Admission is $4.50 for adults and $2.00 for children under 12. Stroller are allowed, and there will a be door prize. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Food Bank of Western New York.
