MAYVILLE - There were 47 members of the Mayville Senior Citizens who met for lunch and a meeting at the Mayville VFW.
Louise Richer, Dolly Gilbert, Bonnie Johnson and Mary Carlson set the tables and made the coffee. Jeff and Sandy Wagner prepared and served sloppy joes, which were enjoyed by all. Carlson called the table numbers after Chaplain Dianne Goodrich asked a blessing for the food.
After the huge variety of casseroles and desserts were enjoyed, President Joyce Ayres called the meeting to order. Goodrich read several cute stories about children, "Thankful for Each Season" and led the group in prayer. Ayres led the flag salute. Secretary Izetta Ayling read the minutes and Treasurer Edna Brown gave her report. Senior Council Representative Jeff Wagner stated there would be a dinner dance on Wednesday, Sept. 19 at the Kiantone Fire Hall for all seniors and a seminar about aging on Thursday, Sept. 27 at the Lakewood Rod and Gun.
Goodwill Chair Carlson announced the birthdays for August as: life member Ruth Patterson; Juanita Gering; Nancy Cole; Alice Paulus; Pauline Wright; Victor Harris; Joyce Ayres; Mary Carlson; Francis Himelein; Sylvia Colby; Louise Richir; Agnes Briggs; Dorothy Krause; Bonnie Johnson; John Brightman; Sandra Derbish; Dick Ressler; Bob Barnes; and Sally Fahy. Those celebrating wedding anniversaries are the James Subjacks, the Charles Wrights and the Carl Witherows.
Trip Co-chairs Sandy Anderson and Jean Kelsey said all was ready for the trip to Pigeon Forge on Monday, Aug. 20. The bus would arrive at 5 a.m. There are still seats available for the September trip to Vidlers and Made in The USA store, a great time to Christmas shop. Payment for that trip is due at the first September meeting. There are only five seats left for the trip to Cambridge Springs in November.
The person called for the lottery was not present, so it grows. Fern Abrams won the door prize, a dozen ears of corn donated by Rex Wilson.
The next meeting of the Mayville Senior Citizens will be on Sept. 6 in the Mayville VFW at noon. Bring a dish to pass and your own table service. The annual chicken barbecue will be on Saturday, Sept. 22. Reservations are required. There will be a sign-up sheet at the Sept. 6 meeting.
