PORTLAND - The winning continues for 21 Brix Winery as they just received the results from the Indy International Wine Competition, which was held at the beginning of August. 21 Brix Winery's Ellatawba wine won three awards, including Rose Wine of the Year, Best of Class and double Gold. Ellatawba is a Pink Catawba wine, which the winery released in April during its Grand Opening celebration. The name of the wine is a blend of the grape varietal as well as the name of the life-size elephant, Ella, who greets people at the driveway entrance on Route 20.
21 Brix Winery also entered twelve other wines in addition to Ellatawba and all of these wines came home with medals as well. Gold medal winners included Ella's White, which just recently won Best White in the Pacific Rim Wine Competition held earlier this summer, and Cayuga. The winery's 2011 Chardonnay, Ella's Red, Gewurztraminer, Noiret, Raspberry, Dry Riesling and Semi-Dry Riesling all won silver medals in this prestigious competition. Bronze medals were awarded to the Cherry wine, as well as Thirsty Elephant and Sweet Riesling.
The Indy International Wine Competition is the largest independent and scientifically organized wine competition held in the United States. The wines from 21 Brix were in competition against nearly 3,000 wines from 40 states and 15 countries. The judging panel was comprised of fifty experts in the field, including winemakers, grape growers, enologists, chefs, sommeliers, wine distributors, retailers, and wine writers.
21 Brix Winery offers a wide range of wines to please anyone's palette. Stop by the tasting room, open daily 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. to sample award-winning wines. Private parties including bridal or baby showers, reunions, and company parties can be held at the winery as well. The winery is located at 6654 West Main Road/Route 20, Portland, 792-2749.
