JAMESTOWN - Gary Farley had the best round of the day as the Westfield Retiree Golf League traveled to South Hill Country Club on Busti-Stillwater Road in Jamestown.
There were 23 golfers who participated and Farley was the sole owner with a gross score of 87, while 15 players had 90-00 and four players had over 100. The weather was excellent again with low breezes and no rain.
The six foursomes were closely matched with Jim Quinn, Doug Rothwell, Vin Paternosh and Keith Rothwell winning with 223 total.
Two teams came in with 225 totals. The team of Farley, Gary Nash, Mel Allan and Tren Jordan tied with Jim Sudal, Al Muck, Bob Rogers and John Barone, low net.
In fourth place at 226 was the team of Roger Kolpien, Keith Rothwell, Todd Swanson and Paternosh. Paternosh's score was used twice to complete a foursome.
Quinn claimed two skins on holes 4 and 6. Farley's two skins were on holes 8 and 16. Swanson earned a skin on hole no. 10
Phil Young was closest to the pin on hole no. 4, 17 feet, and Sudal was closes at 12' 2" on hole no. 13.
The season comes to a close Monday, Sept. 24 at Green Meadows Golf Course in North East, Pa. Players should arrive at the Moose Club in Westfield by 8:15 a.m. Hot dogs, hamburgers and colas will be served at the turn and at the completion of the round.
Special thanks go to the course owners for all their efforts on the league's behalf. Also to Kolpien for his help in setting the schedule and in running tournaments, to Keith Rothwell and Quinn who were crucial to the success of the day's events. My small part was that of providing the yearly schedule and then figuring the handicaps each time. It was hard to have the players on the course and could only watch.
Hope to see you all again next year.
