WESTFIELD - On Thursday, Aug. 23, eight foursomes competed at Pinehurst Golf Club for $32 of prize money awarded to the top three teams. Joining for the first time was Ray Myers.
Two groups finished with remarkable seven under par scores. Employing the tie-breaker system, first place when to the team of Dennis Shively, John Rawlinson, Jesse Marino and Trenny Jordan with their eagle three on the first hole.
Second place was awarded to the unit of Sam Arcadipane, Steve Woleben, Gene Noble and Harry Barton with an eagle two on the fifth hole, courtesy of a chip-in by Noble.
The third spot was claimed by Les Yokom, Bob Rogers, Keith Rothwell and Al Newman with a score of five under.
Fourth place, four under: Todd Swanson; Mel Allen; Doug Rothwell; and Myers.
Fifth place, three under: Butch Joint; Ray Cenni; Al Easton; and Jim Higginbotham.
Sixth place, three under: Ray Lewis; Vinny Paternosh; Rick Lawson; and Jim Quinn.
Seventh place, two under: Bard Schaack; Dave Holser; John Jones; and Marty Gollnitz.
Eighth place, even par: Bill Cole; Bill Christ; Bob Lokietek; and Bill Ottaway.
The closes to the pin were Higginbotham on no. 4 and Newman on no. 7.
