PORTLAND - April 9, 2013 will commemorate the 200th anniversary of the establishment of the town of Portland.
Many celebratory events and activities are in the planning process, culminating with a community festival to be held July 13 to 15, 2013 at the Brocton American Legion Post 434.
To kick-start the bicentennial, the committee will be offering the community a calendar which will focus on historical pictures collected and put together by Al Valenin, curator of the Portland Historical Museum. The calendar will offer the community a chance to document any important dates in their lives. Events considered will be birthdays, anniversaries and in memory. These will be placed on that specific date in the calendar. Information from the contributor will include date, name - maximum of 25 characters including spaces - and type of event. Entries will cost $2 each with calendars costing $5 each. All entries must be submitted by Nov. 1 and will be published Dec. 7, just in time for the holidays.
Order forms will be available online at www.portlandbicentennial.com and at the Portland Town Hall and the Village of Brocton Office and from any committee member.
