Ripley Grange wins first place ribbons at County Fair

DUNKIRK - Winners of the Chautauqua County Fair, Department 801 of the Grange Exhibits were announced on Sunday, July 22.

The Judge's Choice Winners included a first place to Ripley Grange no. 65,with a theme of "The Greatness of Grapes." Ripley reflected on the many aspects of the local grape production and the products which come forth from the harvest of grapes. Mainly reflecting on the use of grape juice and wine in the observance of communion in our places of worship.

Second place went to Ross Grange no. 305 reflecting on "Cows - Amazing Facts." Third place was awarded to Villenova Grange no. 604, "Grange Educates at Grangeville Schools." Fourth place was awarded to Ellery Center Grange no. 353 displaying its theme of "New York State Flag and Symbols." Fifth Place was Fredonia Grange no. 1 and its unique theme this year was, "Underground Railroad - A Journey To Freedom."

Ripley Junior Grange no. 425 took first place in the Junior Booth division. Ripley Junior Grange showed the different projects it has done this past year. Chautauqua County Pomona Grange no. 3 displayed all the new literature the National Grange has come out with this year in the promotion and received the Official Pomona Ribbon.

Chautauqua Patrons Insurance Association once again presented four areas of cash awards: $50 cash award for Judge's Choice in Subordinate Booth went to Ripley Grange no. 65; $50 cash award for first place in Educational Value went to Ross Grange no. 305; $25 cash award for second place went to Ellery Center Grange no. 353; $25 cash award for Judge's Choice in Junior Grange Booth went to Ripley Junior Grange no. 425.

Z & M AG and Turf folks down in Levant offered the $100 cash award, and traveling plaque for the booth with the best rural theme. The honors this year went to Ross Grange no. 305.

Art Kinney, Grange Chairman along with Jared and Martha Woolley thanked all the individual granges for their great work in presenting to the public their great booth displays. Each booth was unique in their individual themes, and they all were well done.
