Phil Young was medalist with an 83 to lead all golfers at the Erie Golf Club on Monday, Aug. 6. A total of 28 golfers in the Westfield Golf Retirees participated.
The weather, just following the wind and rain of the arts and crafts festival, was beautiful.
Young's 83, 70 net, led the team to first place along with Gary Nash's 93, 70 net, and Sam Arcadiapane's 87, net 71. Only the three low nets are used. Roy McKinnon's 96 gross, 80 net, was not used. Arcadiapane, with a birdie on no. 1, and Young's birdie three on no. 3 each won a "skin."
In second place, Trenny Jordan led the way with a 90 gross, 75 net. Jim Quinn had a 76 net and Harry Barton had a 67 net, the only player in the 60's. LeRoy Vahl's 85 net did not get used. The team's 218 total did not include any skins.
The third place with 221 was the foursome of Don Farley, Bert Baker, Bob Rogers and Bill Deuink. Baker had a 74 net and earned a skin as he played his first round with the group while visiting in Westfield. Rogers' 81 net was not used although he had a skin on hole no. 15. Deuink contributed with a 77 net.
A third place tie at 221 was the foursome of Glen Eck, John Barone with a 74 net, Roger Kolpien also with a 74 net and a skin on no. 11, and Al Muck with skins on holes no. 8 and 10.
The group travels to South Hills in Busti, N.Y., on Monday, Aug. 20. The group meets at the Westfield Moose Club parking lot by 8:15 a.m. For further information, call Kolpien at 326-6253.
