Vince Gill headlines Week Eight entertainment at Chautauqua Institution

CHAUTAUQUA - Singer, songwriter and Country Music Hall of Fame member, Vince Gill takes the Amphitheater stage on Friday, Aug. 17. Music School Festival Orchestra, Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra and Jim Walker and 'Free Flight' also perform this week at Chautauqua.

Enjoy free admission to the grounds Sunday, Aug. 12 and attend the Chautauqua School of Dance Student Gala, directed by Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux, at 2:30 p.m. in the Amphitheater. Access to the grounds is always free on Sundays and parking is free until 1:30 p.m.

In the Amphitheater on Monday, Aug. 13 Timothy Muffitt leads the Music School Festival Orchestra for an 8:15 p.m. performance.

Family Entertainment Series (FES) presents the Chautauqua Regional Youth Ballet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14. Artistic director Monika Alch guides her young dancers for an evening of classical and contemporary dance in Elizabeth S. Lenna Hall.

The first Community Appreciation Night of the week features the Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra Pops Concert, "Salute to John Williams: Celebrating the 80th Birthday of an American Treasure." At 8:15 p.m. in the Amphitheater on Tuesday, Richard Kaufman, principal pops conductor of Orange County's Pacific Symphony leads the CSO alongside violinist Brian Reagin to take the audience through a history of John Williams as an American treasure, with music from Raiders of the Lost Ark to Star Wars.

Jim Walker and 'Free Flight' perform at 8:15 p.m. in the Amphitheater on Wednesday, Aug. 15 on Week Eight's final Community Appreciation Night. The group has been bringing classical jazz, from Bach to The Beatles to Miles Davis, to delighted audiences for three decades.

On Thursday, the CSO will be led by Andrew Constantine, music director of the Fort Wayne Philharmonic and Reading Symphony Orchestra in Pennsylvania. Constantine and the CSO will be joined by flutist Jim Walker for the 8:15 p.m. Amphitheater performance.

Vince Gill is one of the most successful artists in the history of country music. He has sold over 26 million albums worldwide and has won a record-breaking 18 Country Music Association (CMA) Awards and 20 Grammy Awards. His show, An Evening with Vince Gill, begins at 8:15 p.m. in Amphitheater on Friday, Aug. 17. Tickets are still available.

The CSO closes out Week Eight's entertainment on Saturday, Aug. 18. Violinist Anastasia Khitruk performs with the CSO under the direction of guest conductor Ira Levin in the Amphitheater at 8:15 p.m.

Tickets for Amphitheater performances are $40. On Community Appreciation Nights, ticket prices are reduced to $18 and Family Entertainment Series performances in Smith Wilkes Hall are always free.
