Westfield Republican / Mayville Sentinel News

Helen L. Wassink, 98, of 777 Bakerink Rd., Clymer, N.Y., passed away Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012 at her home.

She was born on Sept. 1, 1913 in Clymer, N.Y., the daughter of the late David and Bertha (Borstorff) Bensink.

Helen graduated from Corry High School in 1931, and after working for several years she married her husband Ralph in 1938. She has lived on the family farm for over 74 years until the time of her death. Later in life she worked at Chautauqua Institute, Venture Inn in Corry, Pa., and Peak N' Peek. She was an active member of the Abbe Reformed Church in Clymer and enjoyed activities at the Corry Moose. Ralph and Helen attended the Wattsburg Fair annually and, to our knowledge, she never missed a year through 2011. Helen was known for her pie making abilities. On a historical note, she was born on the day the Clymer Dam flooded. Helen spent considerable time helping her family, especially her brother David and his wife Esther.
