Westfield Retirees Travel Golf League 07/23/12

Dick Furman's 80 gross score led all golfers as the Westfield Retirees Travel Golf League met at the Scenic Heights Golf Course in Erie, Pa., on Monday, July 23. Mother Nature also blessed the day with another bit of fine weather.

Furman's 80 was followed by Les Yokum's 81 and Jeff Wagner's 82. Thirteen golfers scored in the 80's for the best scoring of the year.

Harry Barton's astonishing 59 let the net scoring and was helped by teammates Yokom's and Gary Farley's 63 net to finish in first place with a total 185 net. Roger Kolpien's 66 was not used. At 199, Butch Joint, 65, John Barone, 68, Doug Rothwell, 66, combined to finish in second place. Todd Swanson's 70 net was not used.

In third place was the team of Wagner, 72 net, Leroy Vahl, 64 net, newcomer Dan Newcomb and Mel Allen, 64 net.

Tied for fourth place were three teams at 203: Jim Quinn, 66, Tren Jordan, 68, Vin Paternosh, 69, and Al Muck, 72; Phil Young, 65, Gary Nash, 67, Bill Deuink, 71, and first-timer Ray Glasgow, 74; Furman, 67 net, Sam Arcadipane, 84 gross and 64 net, Dick Kurek, 72 net, and Al Sam, 74 net.

In seventh place at 206 was Jim Sudal, 71 net, Glen Eck, 65 net, Bob Rogers, 79 net, and Keith Rothwell, 70 net.

Closest to the pin honors went to Doug Rothwell on hole no. 3. Only three skins were earned: Furman, hole no. 2; Arcadipane, hole no. 8; and Yokum, hole no. 16.

The next outing will be at Erie Golf Club on Monday, Aug. 6. Players should meet by 8:15 a.m., at the Westfield Moose parking lot for travel arrangements. First tee time is 9:45 a.m., in Erie. For further information, call Kolpien at 326-6253.
