Mayville Senior Citizens

Westfield Republican / Mayville Sentinel News

MAYVILLE - There were 34 members of the Mayville Senior Citizens who met on Thursday, June 21 for lunch and to hear a very interesting speaker.

President Joyce Ayers greeted the group and Chaplain Dianne Goodrich asked a blessing for the meal before the numbers were called by Mary Carlson. A large variety of casseroles, salads and desserts were enjoyed by all. Louise Richer, Bonnie Johnson, Nancy Navarro and Nancy Peters were the kitchen committee.

Chaplain Goodrich read "Irate Woman," "No Money" and "The Meaning of The Flag Folding" and led the group in prayer. Secretary Izetta Ayling read the minutes and correspondences and Treasurer Edna Brown gave her report. Goodwill Chair Carlson reported she had sent several cards. Trip Co-Chairs Sandy Anderson and Jean Kelsey reported that the trips were filling up fast for Vidlers and Cambridge Springs.

Program Chair Bill Tornstrom introduced Shane Jacobson from New York Public Service on Energy Conservation. Jacobson explained how to conserve natural resources and what savings are available to help. The new florescent bulbs alone could save about 40 percent. Fans can help cool and assist the air conditioners. Dryers, refrigerators and TV's use the most electricity. He had many helpful booklets for the group, and he answered several questions. For more information, he gave the website NYSERDA.NY.gov

Anderson won the lottery. Wanda Gustafson and Brown won the door prizes donated by Laura Jean Parment.

There will only be one meeting in July. Fred Anderson and Emerson Chandler will cook hot dogs for the picnic on Thursday, July 19. Bring picnic fare for this fun time. Bingo will follow the meal which will be at noon in the VFW picnic pavilion, weather permitting, or inside if not.
