Westfield Legion wins Babe Ruth title

WESTFIELD - The Westfield Legion spotted Brocton GLS three runs in the top of the first inning, but came on strong, scoring the next 15 runs in the final four innings for a 15-3 victory in the Chautauqua Babe Ruth (13-15) League Championship game.

In the top of the first inning, Brocton took advantage of a two-out error by Westfield Legion when Ryan Johnson reached on the error, Nash Delcamp singled and Latham Dunn slammed a double driving home both runners. Matt Siragusa followed with a hit to drive home Dunn. That was all the scoring Brocton GLS was to get for the evening.

The Legion's Nolan Hunt and Robbie Burgess shut down the Brocton bats for the remainder of the game allowing just one hit and one walk. Hunt was credited with the win, tossing four innings, walking none and striking out six. Burgess worked the final three innings for the save, walking one and striking out four.

The Legion scored five unearned runs in the bottom of the third, taking advantage of three GLS errors. The inning started when Liam Tennies blasted a lead-off triple and scored on a throwing error. In the fifth inning, Westfield added eight runs aided by a pair of costly errors. The key hit of the inning was a triple by Nolan Hunt who ended up with a pair of hits. Burgess and Tennies also had multiple hit games.

Johnson took the loss on the mound for Brocton GLS going three innings, allowing five runs, but only one earned, walked three and fanned six. Daulton Remington pitched the final three innings, walking four and striking out six. He allowed 10 runs, but nine of those were unearned.

The Westfield Legion has now won the League Championship for the past two seasons.
