'Rally for the Cure' Golf Tourney July 21

There will be a "Rally for the Cure" golf tournament at Pinehurst Golf Course in Westfield on Saturday, July 21.

It is hosted by the Tuesday Evening Par Tee Girls League. The Susan G. Komen Foundation raises money each year to help with the research for the cure of breast cancer by sponsoring the "Rally for the Cure" Breast Cancer Golf Tournaments.

All the money raised through these tournaments goes toward research for a cure. There will be a 9 a.m. shotgun start for a two-person scramble. The registration fee is $20, which includes a years subscription to a magazine - four different magazines to choose from - a Rally for Cure magnetic ball marker, along with other goodies. A major prize will be awarded for a woman closest to the pin on a par-3 hole and also a major prize for a man closest to the pin on a par-3 hole, plus many other hole prizes and a Chinese auction. The tournament cost is $20 per person and does not cover golfing fees or cart. There will also be an optional lunch after a great morning of golfing.

The following are the special hole sponsors: Jim Gennock, Sales Consultant for Shults Resale Center; Box Monkey; Welchs; Rookies on the Lake; Dietzen Dump Truck; Spike Dailey's Pub at the Boardwalk; Legislator Shaun Heenan; PD Construction and Matteson Karate.

Anyone - men and women - interested in golfing should call Sue Dietzen at 366-3514 or Pinehurst Golf Course for information or to register.

Sherman Central School to hold 5K run/walk Aug. 4

SHERMAN - The Sherman Central School's physical education department is putting on a 5k Run/Walk on Saturday, Aug. 4 during the Sherman Day festivities.

The event has two major purposes - to promote physical activity within the community and area, and for supplies for the district's physical education program. With the recent cuts to education, Sherman's physical education supply and equipment budget has been cut significantly. To keep the program current, the department is not only fundraising, but is promoting physical education to the area at the same time through the 5K.

The 5K Run/Walk will take place on Saturday, Aug. 4 starting at 8:30 a.m. in the Town of Sherman. The entrance fee will be $20 for the public and $10 for SCS students who pre-register by Friday, July 27 and $25 the day of the event. T-shirts will be guaranteed to anyone who pre-registers and were designed by SCS junior Julia Rater.

Registration forms can be found at www.sherman.wnyric.org. Mail pre-registration forms to: Sherman Central School, Attn: Run for PE, 127 Park Street, Sherman, N.Y. 14781. Make checks payable to: Sherman Central Class of 2014.

Race day registration will take place from 7:15 to 8:15 a.m., at Murdock's Restaurant located on the corner of Main and Osborne Streets in Sherman.

After the race, the Sherman Day Parade and other community events will take place. Last year, over 95 people participated and the race is professionally timed. Prizes and awards will be given by random drawing for all who participate. Age categories will be: 14 and under; 15 to 19; 20 to 29; 30 to 39; 40 to 49; 50 to 59; 60 and over.

For more information, contact Andrew Krenzer at 397-5531 or AKrenzer@sherman.wnyric.org.
