Recently, Kelly Mathews, who was identified on the wait staff of the Bark Grill in a photo taken sometime between 1976 and 1980 showing proprietor Randy Arnot, stopped in at the Westfield Historian office to identify two more people in the photo.
Regarding the remaining unknown female behind the kitchen counter, Mathews commented a number of waitresses came in from not only SUNY Fredonia, but from Chautauqua Institution community, as seasonal help. Perhaps someone else may recognize this other female staff member. Matthews emphasized she is definitely not Chef John Perreria's wife, although she also often worked at The Bark.
After identifying staff from the photo, Mathews shared more tidbits about "The Bark" from when he worked there under Arnot. In particular, he remembered the Deutch Meisters Band would, after their regular Thursday night band rehearsals, regularly "retire" for relaxation to the Bark Grill and have a "jam session" to the delight of the staff and patrons. An old photo of the Deutsch Meisters Band from May 30, 1977, and re-published in the "Do you remember?" section of the Dunkirk Sunday Observer of March 31, 2002, was shared with Mathews, bringing delighted and/or wistful exclamations as he recognized most of the band members, many of whom are no longer with us.
Pictured are Bark Grill staff from Randy Arnot’s era, from left to right, are: owner Randy Arnot; Kelly Mathews; dining room manager Sara Baker; Juan “Freddie” Pederico; an unknown female; a SUNY Fredonia student Lori Stultavi; and chef John Perreria.
