MAYVILLE?- Chautauqua County Executive Gregory J. Edwards and the Southern Tier West Regional Planning & Development Board are seeking three motivated residents from Chautauqua County to serve on the Southern Tier West Planning Board.
The board was created in 1969 by a resolution of the County Legislatures of Allegany, Cattaraugus, and Chautauqua Counties. The board helps coordinate and enhance planning and develops activities that promote social, physical, and economic development in the Southern Tier west region.
The board is made up of 16 members, with five members from each of the three counties and one member from the Seneca Nation of Indians. As the region covers three counties and over 127 municipalities, it is important that all board members keep in mind the following board member responsibilities:
To attend each and every meeting, whenever possible, and to take an active interest in its proceedings;
To faithfully serve on committees or subcommittees when appointed, and to advise the chairman of any impending conflict;
To conscientiously keep all board participants free of politics or personal conflict of interest;
To discard parochial viewpoints and work exclusively toward regional cooperation and improvement.
"Chautauqua County needs three representatives to serve on the board and we are looking for two elected leaders and one member at-large to fill these vacancies," said Edwards.
Chautauqua County representatives are appointed by the County Executive and are subject to the review and approval of the Chautauqua County Legislature. Members serve a three-year term and can seek re-appointment upon the expiration of their term.
Meetings are generally held on the third Thursday of every month from Noon to 3 p.m. at Southern Tier West on 4039 Route 219 in Salamanca.
Residents interested in serving on the Board should submit their contact information and a brief biography to:
