WESTFIELD - The Westfield Senior Citizens met on Thursday, June 21 at the YWCA at 6 p.m. A delicious potluck meal was enjoyed by 31 members and one guest. A beautiful cake in honor of Fran Anderson was served for dessert.
Following the dinner, Kent Knappenberger of Westfield Academy and Central School's music department entertained with several lovely pieces on his harp. This was followed by musical numbers sung by the award-winning chamber group, The Westwinds, which also sang "Happy birthday" to Anderson, who is celebrating her 95th birthday. Congratulations.
The meeting was called to order by President Shirley Kolpien. Chaplain Joyce Wainwright read, as devotions, a piece entitled, "A Chosen Vessel."
New member Carol Reynolds and guest Bonnie Wakeley were welcomed. The 50/50 was won by Dorothy Hall and the door prize by Marilyn Norton.
June birthdays were also celebrated by Bev Yeaney, Dan Hess and Barb Travis. Darla and Bob Augur enjoyed an anniversary.
A boat ride on the Chautauqua Belle is planned for Thursday, July 12. Members should meet at Mayville Park at 4 p.m., with a bag lunch and beverage. Kolpien will collect the money at that time. The boat ride will start at 5 p.m.
The September meeting will be the 54th anniversary for the Westfield Senior Citizens. This will be a roast chicken dinner catered by Calarco's. Reservations must be made to Kolpien or Dolores Kaufman. The cost to members is $5.
Any seniors interested in joining should call Kolpien at 326-3576.
