Mayville Senior Citizens 06/07/12

MAYVILLE - There were 63 members of the Mayville Senior Citizens who met on Thursday, June 7 for a delightful afternoon of food and fun. Louise Richir, Dolly Gilbert, Sandy Derbish and Alicia Doughty set the tables and made the coffee.

President Joyce Ayers greeted the group and led them in singing "Happy Birthday" to Bob Cole. Chaplain Dianne Goodrich asked a blessing for the food. Secretary pro tem Mary Carlson called the table numbers.

After the delicious meal, Ayers opened the short business meeting. Goodrich read, "The Marriage Councilor," "Idle Thoughts of a Retirees Brain" and "Peace," then led the group in prayer. Ayers led the flag salute. Carlson read the minutes and Treasurer Edna Brown gave her report. As Goodwill Chair, Carlson stated she had sent several get well wishes. She reported three life members were celebrating birthdays this month: Francis Anderson; Marguerite Brightman; and Ross Field. Others celebrating are: Betty Johnson; Ruth Alday; Betty Barnes; Francis Graham; and Ed Davis. Ronald and Gloria Moore and James and Ruth Stacy are celebrating their wedding anniversaries.

Trip co-chairs Sandy Anderson and Jean Kelsey reported all was ready for the trip to Cleveland's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame The bus will leave from the VFW at 7:15 p.m. There are seats available for all the other day trips, but they are going fast. The trip to Tennessee has a few seats available, but reservations must be made soon. Call either Anderson at 753-7814 or Kelsey at 753-2663 for information.

Six new members were introduced and made welcome. They are: Carol Mead; Fred Newell; Joann Harper; Dan Goede; and Darlene Goede.

Arlene Kurtz won the lottery and Joann Harper won the door prize.

Ayers introduced the Northeast Banjo Band who entertained with gusto, playing old and favorite tunes. Their lively toe tapping tunes were fun to listen to and several seniors even got up and did a polka. They were enjoyed by all and ended their program with "God Bless America," as the seniors sang along

The next meeting of the Mayville Seniors will be on Thursday, June 21 at noon in the Mayville VFW. The speaker will be Shawn Jacobson from the New York State Energy Conservation Department Bring a dish to pass and personal table service.
