Westfield FD members receive training on the use of baskets in rescue

July 4, 2012
Westfield Republican / Mayville Sentinel News

WESTFIELD - Due to the recent increase in rescues involving people on beach property with limited access, training for the Westfield Volunteer Fire Department was conducted using the ladder truck T291 in conjunction with a stokes basket for rescues.

One end of a pulley system with ropes is attached to the ladder, while the other is connected to the rescue basket that will quickly and safely transport a patient from the beach to the top of a cliff. Both ends are monitored and controlled by the rescuing personnel. The training included exercises with and without a patient in the stokes basket.
