ALBANY - The Business Council of New York State, Inc. has launched MADEinNY.org, a website that promotes New York businesses and their products and services.
The Made in New York website was created to highlight Business Council members and the many diverse products and services they make and provide. Its hope in doing this is to increase awareness of the great companies that are the backbone of New York's economy.
The site currently features nearly 400 companies from across the state, with products ranging from food items and textiles to circuit boards and microchips. While the thrust of the site is to showcase manufacturers, it also features companies that sell products or provide services in the state, as well as tourist destinations and educational institutions that are unique to New York.
"Consumers who buy products and services sold by New York companies are actively helping to create jobs and strengthen our economy," Heather Briccetti, president and CEO of The Business Council, said. "Our new website is a terrific way to highlight and promote the wide range of products made by companies here in New York. We believe that by working together and buying 'Made in New York,' we can make a difference one purchase at a time."
Manufacturers in New York account for some 420,000 jobs, $22 billion in payroll and $150 billion in shipments in 2010, according to data from the U.S. Census Bureau.
In addition to promoting individual companies and products, the site also promotes business-to-business discounts through which members of The Business Council will enjoy significant savings on products and services offered by fellow members. That feature offers members the opportunity for increased sales and improved bottom lines.
