Dick Furman led all golfers at the Westfield Travel Golf League event held on Monday, June 11 at Crab Apple Ridge in Waterford, Pa. He fired a 79 followed closely by Jeff Wagner's 82 and Tren Jordan's 85. Roy McKinnon had an 86, Jim Sudol and Sam Arcadipane each shot an 88 and Phil Young and Al Muck shot 89s.
The weather has been outstanding so far this season and play shows steady improvement.
First place in the handicap tournament was earned by the team of Phil Young, net 67, Bob Rogers, net 64, Sudol, net 67, and Leroy Vahl, net 69, whose score was not used. Coming in second place was the team of Furman, Mel Allen, Jordan and Jim Quinn. In third place was the team of McKinnon, John Barone, Arcadipane and Les Yokom. In fourth place was the team of Muck, Gary Nash, Vin Paternosh and Butch Joint.
Closest to the pin on par 3 holes were McKinnon on 124 yard no. 2 and Quinn on 125 yard no. 11. Only two skins were earned by Paternosh on no. 7 and Joint on no. 16.
The next outing will be Tuesday, June 26 at Peek 'n Peak Golf Course in Findley Lake. Pre-registration is mandatory. There are already 22 golfers signed up, but a few openings still remain. Anyone who would like to play must register by calling Roger Kolpien at 326-6253 by Friday June 22. Golfers should show up at the Moose Lodge parking lot by 8:15 a.m. to arrange transportation to the course itself. New retired golfers are welcome. The league misses Harry, Warren and Dennis.
