Library cat turning 11

Thackeray, the Ripley Free Library cat, will be celebrating his birthday on Friday, June 22 when he will be 11 years old. Everyone is invited to stop in for a piece of cake and to wish him the best on his special day.

Sarah and the Sandman

Patterson Library's summer program for children going into grades five and six meets every Monday at 10:15 a.m., for six weeks. Led by Sarah Funka, there will be lots of fun and activities on the theme of "Dream Big, Read!" All summer programs and special events are free. Stop by the library to register.

Patterson Library Summer Kickoff: Owl Ecology

Naturalist Paul Fehringer presents Owl Ecology in Patterson Library's Octagon Gallery at 11:15 a.m., as part of Patterson's "Dream Big, Read!" summer program. Free and open to all children and parents, just register for the summer program at the library.

Ripley Hose Company fundraiser

The annual Ripley Hose Company and Ladies Auxiliary fundraiser will be held at the Firemen's Field in Ripley on Saturday, June 30 from 2 to 11 p.m. There will be food, games, crafts, a photo competition, live music and dance plus more. Save the date.

Ripley Community Day Festival

A Ripley Community Day Festival will take place on Saturday June 30 at Firemen's Field in Ripley located at 2 Park Avenue from 2 to 10 p.m. This fundraiser for the Ripley Hose Company No. 1 and Auxiliary has free admission. All are welcome to stop by for fun, food and entertainment.

Attractions include a craft show, silent auction and games for all such as a bounce house, dime toss, "I got it" game and bell jar. There will be live music by Ron Vance throughout the afternoon and a street dance at 7 p.m., with music by Acoustic Gypsies.

Food concessions include Smith's hot dogs, hamburgers, firemen's curly fries, assorted beverages, baked goods, strawberry shortcake and a special pulled pork platter available from 5 p.m. until gone. Beer will be available after 5 p.m.

There will be wine tasting and sales featuring Sparkling Ponds frappe vino wine slush. A corn hole competition will be held at 5 p.m. with registration at 2 p.m. For further information contact Tina at (814) 602-8778.
