SHERMAN - Have you noticed the lovely hanging baskets and flower buckets on Main Street in Sherman? Businesses have placed them outside their establishments. The flags also demonstrate the patriotism in our local area, especially as we celebrated Memorial Day and the soon coming July 4 celebration of Independence Day. Note too the United States Flags and flowers around the statue that represents those who have served, some giving their lives, in the service of our country protecting our land of "freedom and justice" for all, that is located in front of the Yorker Museum on the corner of Church and Park Streets. Sherman Village Mayor John Patterson purchased and planted the flags and beautiful flowers. We thank him for beautifying that area showing our patriotism. If you see him, it would be nice for you to express your individual thanks to him.
We also express thanks to Jerry Russell, Jim Higginbotham and Jerry Paul for decorating the Sherman Cemetery prior to Memorial Day. Paul is the caretaker of it by mowing the grass and caring for other needs there. Veteran Russell purchased the flags and Veteran Higginbotham helped him put the flags on all the veterans graves.
The local school will soon complete the 2011-2012 school year. Graduation will be held at 6:30 p.m., on Friday, June 22 in the school auditorium. Regents testing continues next week prior to graduation. Senior Awards Night was held on the 11th.
