Feedback regarding Bark Grill Restaurant history series

Buzzings from BeeLines

June 13, 2012
By Marybelle Beigh - Westfield Historian (westfieldhistorian@fairpoint.net) , Westfield Republican / Mayville Sentinel News

Per requests from readers for photos of other proprietors of the Bark Grill, note the photo of John J. and Barbara Buczek and son John from a June 18, 1980 Westfield Republican article when the Fredonia couple purchased and opened the restaurant.

More Tony Baideme paintings have been located, but one is missing. When Donald Bova, grandson of Carrie (Bova) DiPasquale, saw the first article about the Bark Grill history, he phoned and left a message for the Westfield Historian, exclaiming as a surviving family member who "grew up in the Bark," he could provide correct information and "true stories" about the place. Bova is the long-time proprietor of Bova's Restaurant in North East, Pa., where he serves authentic family recipes previously served at the Bark Grill when his grandmother ran it with her second husband, Tony DiPasquale.

In a follow-up phone conversation, Bova commented the Dog with Feather painting, which appears in the photo of Tony and Carrie DiPasquale, was painted by Tony Baideme. When that painting and two others were removed from the Bark Grill, they were displayed in Bova's North East, Pa., restaurant at an earlier location. The Dog with Feather painting was bolted in the entrance, and one morning, when Bova came in to the restaurant, he discovered to his dismay the painting had been ripped from the wall, bolts and all, and has never been seen since.

A toast to success is made by John J. and Barbara Buczek and son John as they enter the restaurant business with new ownership of the Bark Grill in Westfield.

If anyone knows where this Baideme painting is located and is willing to restore it to its owners or to Theresa Baideme, the granddaughter of Tony Baideme, contact the Westfield Historian and arrange for an anonymous return, no questions asked and no retribution. Thank you.
