WESTFIELD - James F. "Duff" Monroe, age 82, of First Street, Barcelona, died unexpectedly, Saturday, June 2, 2012 at home.
Duff was born on Nov. 27, 1929 in Westfield, N.Y., the son of the late Harry Charles and Doris Margarett (Hanks) Monroe.
A Barcelona area resident all his life, Duff, was a 1947 graduate of Westfield High School and was a U.S. Army Veteran serving from 1948 until 1951 during the Korean War. Duff joined his family in business at Monroe's Marina upon returning from the service. He had been a commercial fisherman on Lake Erie for many years, mostly aboard the "Doris M," the family fishing boat. He was in the fish business and/or the marina business his whole life. He loved working outside around his home and business along the beach. His latest hobby was making nautical themed gifts, tables and chairs. Duff was straight talking. Sometimes, well usually, less than diplomatic, but always interesting. If you knew him, then you have at least one Duff story. He will be missed.

Duff was the proud grandfather of Heather Monroe of Westfield, N.Y., Casey Foreman of East Stroudsburg, Pa., Megan Foreman of Statesville, N.C., and Erica Foreman of Huntersville, N.C.
