MAYVILLE - The Mayville Senior Citizens met on Thursday, May 17 for its luncheon meeting with 43 members present.

President Joyce Ayers greeted the group and Chaplain Dianne Goodrich offered a blessing before they enjoyed a large variety of homemade casseroles and desserts. Tables were set by Louise Richir, Bonnie Johnson, Dolly Gilbert and Mary Carlson.

Another member of the organization has reached the 90-year milestone. Birthday greetings were given to Izetta Ayling and the group serenaded her with the traditional birthday song.

Goodrich read "Way to go Airlines," "Free Healthcare" and "A Prayer for our Country." She asked all the veterans in the group to stand to be recognized.

President Ayers conducted the short business meeting. Secretary Ayling gave her report as did Treasurer Edna Brown. Goodwill Chair Carlson stated she had sent several get well wishes.

Trip Co-chairs Sandy Anderson and Jean Kelsey reported there were still seats available for the Cleveland Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but the deadline for reservations was Thursday, May 31. All the other trips have seats available. Call either Anderson or Kelsey for more information. Alma Shepard won the door prize.

Program Chair Bill Tornstrom introduced Verna Feathers who told of her trip to Australia. She had a map of the area to indicate the size and locations of the places she visited while on her five-week trip. All the people speak English. There is 100 percent literacy in Australia and school is "attended" online until grade nine. Voting is mandatory and campaigning is limited to two months. Feathers made it very interesting to hear about Australia.

The next meeting of the Mayville Senior Citizens will be on Thursday, June 7 in the Mayville VFW at noon.
