Westfield Republican / Mayville Sentinel News

MAYVILLE - County Executive Gregory Edwards is supporting Chautauqua Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Council as it raises funds for its sixth annual Helping Keep Kids off Drugs bowl-a-thon.

Edwards is also encouraging other community groups or individuals to help CASAC roll a strike on Thursday, June 7.

"I am committed to all efforts aimed at keeping the children of Chautauqua County drug-free," Edwards said. "That's why I fully support CASAC, and their sixth annual bowl-a-thon fundraiser. I encourage everyone to sign up and take part in this important event."

CASAC board and staff are looking for sponsors for the 2012 CASAC Helping Keep Kids Off Drugs bowl-a-thon which will be held at the Fountain Bowl on Fluvanna Avenue in Jamestown on Thursday, June 7 at 7 p.m. Funds raised at the event will be used to provide alcohol and other drugs prevention education and intervention services for youth in our community. CASAC'S goal is to reach $7,000.

Friends of CASAC are encouraged to participate in the bowl-a-thon by collecting sponsor pledges, or organizing teams to help raise funds by competing against each other. Anyone interested in having a team or joining one of CASAC's teams should call 664-3608.

Any resident who wants to support the project, but doesn't want to bowl or pledge an individual, can also make a monetary donation to CASAC by mailing it to CASAC at 501 W. Third Street, Suites 3 and 4 Sprinchorn Building, Jamestown, N.Y. 14701.

Sponsors for the event include: Thrivent Financial for Lutherans; Northwest Savings Bank; Support Enterprises; Fountain Bowl; G and P Gynecare; Eagle Systems Inc.; Falconer Printing and Design; Quick Solutions; Geer-Dunn Company; Inc.; Dan's Moving Storage; Inc.; Jon and Debbie Rossrucker; and the Rhoe B. Henderson Insurance Agency.

Since 1974, CASAC, a not-for-profit United Way supported agency, has been dedicated to providing prevention education and community awareness of problems related to alcohol, other drugs and compulsive gambling. CASAC is the only New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) approved and supported agency in Chautauqua County. For further information about CASAC programs and services, call the Jamestown office at 664-3608, or the Dunkirk office at 366-4623, or go to www.casacweb.org.
