MAYVILLE - On Wednesday, May 9, The Westfield High School Westwinds choir participated in the major choral ensemble evaluation festival at Chautauqua Lake High School sponsored by the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA).
At the event, area school choirs had the opportunity to be evaluated at one of six different difficulty levels - one being the easiest and six being the most difficult. The Westwinds chose to be evaluated at difficulty level six and sang a short program of three pieces for two certified adjudicators. Choirs received awards based on their performance of either a certificate of participation, a bronze award, silver award, gold award or gold with distinction for choirs who exhibit exceptional proficiency. The Westwinds were very proud to have received the rating of gold with distinction based on its performance that day.
Besides regular school concerts, the Westwinds performs frequently in the community at large and is made up of 32 students in grades nine through 12. It is directed by Kent Knappenberger.
