WESTFIELD - St. Peter's Episcopal Church is excited to welcome the Right Rev. R. William Franklin, Episcopal Bishop of Western New York, to its church and Westfield this Memorial Day Weekend. This will mark his first official visit to the parish since his consecration in April 2011.
During his visit, Bishop Franklin plans to visit key interest points around Westfield, spend time by the lake and get to know the congregation of St. Peter's and the community as a whole.
To welcome the Bishop there will be a potluck supper on Saturday, May 26 at 6 p.m. The community is welcome to join and to get to know a dynamic new leader.

Most notably, Bishop Franklin will preside at St. Peter's Sunday Service on May 27 at 10 a.m. The Rev. Virginia Carr, rector, will present three candidates to the bishop to be confirmed in the Episcopal tradition.
In a recent video series produced by the diocesan communication office, Bishop Franklin explains the role of bishops in the Episcopal Church. The entire video can be viewed online at www.episcopalwny.org.
"We believe that this office of bishop is something which is apostolic (derived from the Apostles), which means a bishop continues the apostolic mission of Jesus in the life of the church today," he said. "We think it's biblical, but it is also democratic, in that in our church - in the American church of the Episcopal Church - bishops are elected by the people and the clergy of the Diocese."
Come help the church receive, celebrate and welcome Bishop Franklin to the community, and discover why the people of the Diocese of Western New York elected him to lead them.
