Memorial afternoon muse

May 30, 2012
By Tom Baideme - May 2011 , Westfield Republican / Mayville Sentinel News

Sitting in Duos abode the park

After all of the Festivities are at an end

All the lost are memorialized

And everyone's hunger satisfied

Sit on only bench in shade

This respite from the blazing sun

Chance again to enjoy the breeze

That God provided this fine afternoon

That's the way it seems to go

Cold and rainy most the time

Except when there's truly a need

For the reprieve of too damp, too cold

Seems like when there's need for memories

The sun and warmth to make good days

For memorializing the ones we've lost

From the recent days and in wars lost so long ago

From all the crowds that lined the streets

Now no one seems to be around

No many came for the 21-gun salute

Offered for all in the park at noon

That's the way this day will end

Weekend over, head for home

All those afar that came to reminisce

Of the lost and fallen few now just memories
