Irene Grace (Timmerman) Gibbs died Sunday (May 13, 2012) at the home of her son, Robert Gibbs Jr.
She was born Jan. 30, 1925 in the Town of Sheridan to the late Albert and Edna Mae (Wollaston) Timmerman.
She received her education in the Dunkirk School System, graduating in 1945.

During her lifetime, Irene worked for Kresge's (Kmart), formerly of Dunkirk, N.Y., General Electric Materials Corporation in Erie, Pa., and Landsmith's of Ripley. She also picked grapes for George and Virginia Little and cherries for Everett Eddy in Ripley, N.Y. Her last employment was as a caregiver for Chautauqua Opportunities in Dunkirk, N.Y.
After she married her late husband, Robert H. Gibbs, they moved to Ripley and lived at 54 Maple Avenue where she raised and greatly loved five children.
She was a member of the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of North East, Pa.
Irene is survived by her sons, Robert (Janet) Gibbs Jr., James Gibbs and John (Robin) Gibbs as well as one daughter, Rebecca Gibbs-Bretz, all of whom reside in Ripley, N.Y. Irene is further survived by 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband and parents, Irene was predeceased by her son, Alan G. Gibbs who died Dec. 16, 2011, her four brothers and three sisters.
The funeral service was held at St. Paul's Evangelical Church at 30 Clinton St. in North East, Pa., on Friday, May 18 at 11 a.m., with the Rev. David Kuchta officiating. Relatives and friends were invited to attend the funeral service and called at the Mathews Funeral Home, 104 West Main Street, Ripley, N.Y., on Thursday, May 17 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Internment was at the Quincy Cemetery in Ripley. Donations to the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Irene's memory would be appreciated by the family.
