Joseph R. Brown died Friday (May 11, 2012) at the Absolut Care Center in Westfield, N.Y., following a long illness. He was born in Erie, Pa., to the late Charles and Elizabeth (Moore) Brown. He resided in Ripley for most of his life.
Joseph was a veteran of the Army who bravely fought in the Philippines during World War II and received the World War II Victory Medal. He was very proud to serve his country. After the war, he worked for the railroad industry in Erie, Pa., first for the Nickel Plate Corporation and then the Norfolk-Southern Railroad Corporation.
Joseph is survived by his children, Wanda Erikson and Larry (Donna) Brown of North East and Wade Brown of Findley Lake; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and one sister, Mary Barnes.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Lena Gorton, Carrie Litchendorf, Ethel Jones, Phyllis Abber, Charles Brown, Francis Brown and Elmer Brown.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 17 at the Quincy Cemetery in Ripley, N.Y. All arrangements have been made by the Mathews Funeral Home, 104 West Main St. in Ripley, N.Y.
