RIPLEY - Ripley Area School District residents will have the opportunity to ask questions about the proposed budget for the 2012-2013 school year at a special meeting at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 3 in the Distance Learning Room of the school.
At its regular meeting April 19, the board approved the budget of $8,518,725. This represents a decrease in spending from the current budget of $8,548,564 or 0.3 percent overall.
The main decrease in the spending comes in the area of special education since Ripley does not have as much need in that area in the coming year. Personnel costs are also down because of retirements.
Copies of the budget will be made available at the meeting on May 3. The complete budget can also be found on the district's website.
The board's next regular meeting will proceed the public budget meeting at 6:30 p.m. May 3. The budget vote/board elections annual meeting will be held Tuesday, May 15 from 2 to 8 p.m. in the distance learning room.
In other business, the board approved a resolution to take part with other district's in the Erie 2 BOCES for Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties to bid jointly on commodities.
