American Legion offering scholarship to students or vets

Michael J. Kogutek, the only National Commander of the American Legion from Western New York and a 66 year charter member of Matthew Glab Post 1477, Lackawanna, N.Y., announces a scholarship program that will award two $1,500 scholarships to students or veterans attending college in 2012.

All applicants for the scholarship must use the official applications obtained from Erie County American Legion Headquarters, 609 City Hall, Buffalo, N.Y., 14202, any Monday, Wednesday, or Friday between 8 a.m. and 1p.m. The Legion headquarters phone number is 852-6500.

All applications must be submitted to the Erie County American Legion Headquarters, 609 City Hall, Buffalo, N.Y., 14202 by May 16. The scholarship will be awarded at a site determined on the awardees home area.

The scholarship is intended to assist WNY Veterans and patriotic students who share the ideals of The American Legion. The scholarship will be awarded based on monetary need, scholastic ability, realistic goals and community involvement. All students must show proof that they have been accepted at an accredited college or university prior to receiving the scholarship.
