Bruce D. Swanson, 69, of Bemus Point, passed away Wednesday (April 4, 2012) in St. Vincent's Hospital, Erie, Pa.
A lifelong area resident he was born Oct. 8, 1942 in Jamestown, the son of the late Edmund and Lenora Willover Swanson.
Bruce attended Mayville High School and served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1962 to 1967. In earlier years he was employed by McFadden Ford, AMSCO-Excel and prior to retirement he was employed by Jamestown Metal Products retiring in 2004.

He was a life member of the Maple Springs Volunteer Fire Department having served as Fire Chief. Bruce was also a member of the Jamestown Loyal Order of Moose and AMVETS. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and antique and classic cars.
Surviving are his wife Linda Johnson Swanson whom he married Oct. 2, 1965 in Dewittville; a son, Barry (Julie) Swanson of Bemus Point; a daughter, Sherry Nelson of Bemus Point; five grandchildren, Marisa Nelson, Miranda Nelson, Timothy Lester, Jacob Mathers (Lester), Ashley Nelson; several great grandchildren; three brothers, Lawrence Swanson of Westfield, Dewight Swanson of Frewsburg and Rodney Swanson of Albuquerque, N.M.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his Uncle Fillmore Willover.
The funeral was at 1 p.m. Monday, April 9 in the Falconer Funeral Home. Ben Gerring Associate Pastor of Bemus Point United Methodist Church officiated. Burial was in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends were received by the family from 5 to 8 p.m., Saturday, April 7 in the funeral home.
