Lawrence Charles "Ben" Wakeley died peacefully Tuesday (March 27, 2012) at his home in Ripley, N.Y.
He was born Feb. 26, 1940 in Ripley, N.Y., the son of the late Lynton C. and Mary (Tarr) Wakeley.
A U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam Era, Mr. Wakeley was a 42-year member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, American Legion and the VFW Post.

He had been employed for more than 40 years by the New York State Thruway Authority after which he fulfilled his dream of seeing the country driving CDL.
Ben had a great love for his family.
He is survived by his son, Mark of Ripley, N.Y.; and two daughters, Kimberlee (Wakeley) Stern and Edith Wakeley, both of Pittsburgh, Pa. He was the proud grandfather of James, Dennis, Anthony, Sydney, Elizabeth, Isabella and Solomon. He is further survived by three brothers, Wayne (Dorothy) Wakeley and David (Elaine) Wakeley, both of Florida, and James (Diane) Wakeley of Pennsylvania; two sisters, his twin Florence Staszewski of Pennsylvania and Janice (David) Murray of Michigan; his former wife, Elizabeth Wakeley, as well as several nieces, nephews and his extended family.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Wakeley, and a nephew, Dwight Wakeley.
The funeral service was held Monday, April 2 at 11 a.m., in the Mathews Funeral Home, 104 West Main Street in Ripley, N.Y. Relatives and friends were invited to attend the service and called at the funeral home on Sunday, April 1 from 3 to 6 p.m. Interment will be at the Phillip Cemetery in North East, Pa.
