PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla - Alice W. Lant, a former resident of Westfield, passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 7, 2012 in The Palms Assisted Living Facility in Port St. Lucie, accompanied by her loving niece.
Born Jan. 7, 1922 in Westfield, N.Y., she was the daughter of Edward and Hazel (Clark) Walker. In 1940 she married Leonard W. Lant, who predeceased her.
Mrs. Lant was a graduate of Westfield Academy and Central School and she and her husband owned and operated the Red and White Grocery and Meat Market in Barcelona, N.Y., for many years. Upon their retirement, she and her husband then moved to Florida where they enjoyed the outdoor lifestyle.

Surviving are one sister, Emma W. (Hayden) Hanks of Amesbury, Mass., and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son, Edward W. Lant in 1960; a brother, Alfred E. Walker in 1968; and a sister, Dorothy W. Cochran. Another sister Ruth W. Hogan, who also resided at The Palms, died only three days after Alice.
Family will hold a private memorial service in Westfield, N.Y., at a later date. Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to a local Hospice organization of the donor's choice.
