William R. Webb

William R. Webb, aka. Yogi, Webby, 87, of 10443 Stateline Rd., Wattsburg, Pa., formerly of Lakewood, N.Y., passed away Saturday (March 10, 2012) in his grandson's Darin Nuse's home.

He was born Jan. 26, 1925 in Washington, D.C., the son of the late Harry C. and May L. Barnhouse Webb.

William was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during World War II from 1942 to 1946 in the European and Pacific theaters having received a Purple Heart and World War II Victory Medal and other medals. In earlier years, he was employed by Crawford Furniture, Hendrichs Building Supply and prior to retirement was employed by Trans American Freight in Jamestown. He was a life member of the Lakewood American Legion Post 1286, Mayville VFW Post 8647, Disabled American Veterans, Big Tree Sportsman Cub and Jamestown Old Timers. He was also a member of LLAMA and 24 year life member of the Lakewood Fire Department. William enjoyed being with his family, especially his grandchildren, great grandchildren and the outdoors. He will be sadly missed by his family, grandchildren and dearest friends.

Surviving are a son, Ralph Webb of Sioux City, Iowa; three daughters, Carrie (Joe) Bova of Olean, N.Y., Gracie Nuse (Ed Combs) of Wattsburg, Pa., and Shirley Eckert of Lakewood, N.Y.; eight grandchildren, Jennifer (Primo) Flores, Peter Webb, Justin Webb, James Bova, Joshua Bova, Darin (Alicia) Nuse, Ashley Nuse and Cheyenne Webb; two step grandchildren, Diane Nuse and Mallissa Nuse; nine great grandchildren, Gianna and Elisa Flores, Maddison and Nathaniel Nuse, Jayden and Jaclynn Wanzer, Julianna Nuse and Destiny and Samantha LaMar; two step great grandchildren, Ariana and Dajia Nuse; and a sister, Roxy Stevens.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen S. Smock Webb of 62 years whom he married Jan. 3, 1947 and who died Feb, 12, 2009; two sons, William R. Webb Jr., and George Webb; three sisters, May Destifano, Catherine LoBuono and Frances Evans; and two brothers, Harry and Warren Webb.

A graveside inurnment service was held at 11 a.m., Thursday, March 15 in Pine Hill Cemetery, Falconer for both William and Helen Webb. Long time friend of the family Pete Dawson, Fire Service Chaplain, officiated. A gathering was held at the Lakewood American Legion, Post 1286 immediately following the graveside service.
