David L. Davenport, 71, of 1957 Hoag Rd., Ashville, N.Y., passed away at 7:02 a.m. Saturday (March 3, 2012) in his home.
A lifelong area resident he was born Sept. 1, 1940 in Westfield, N.Y., a son of the late Richard H. and Margaret Bush Davenport.
In previous years he was employed by Jamestown Metal, John Wiggers and Son, the Dairy Herd Improvement Association, Phoenix Metal and was a bus driver for the Y.W.C.A. in Jamestown.
He enjoyed being outdoors working around the farm, woodworking, hunting, fishing and camping.
Surviving are his wife Carol J. Shaffer Davenport whom he married Sept. 16, 1961; two sons, Scott D. (Connie Grove) Davenport of Ashville and Mark E. (Sharon) Davenport of Panama; two granddaughters, Courtney Lescynski of Mayville and Kalli Davenport of Ashville; a brother, Daniel J. (Elaine) Davenport of Ashville; and a sister, Patricia (Gordon) Saulsgiver of Lakewood.
Besides his parent he was preceded in death by a son, Brian A. Davenport who died June 12, 1989, and a brother, Gary Davenport.
A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Friends were received from 2 to 4 p.m., Monday, March 5 in the Lind Funeral Home. A reception will follow at the North Harmony Senior Citizens Building.
