Students perform at All State

January 4, 2012
Westfield Republican
The New York State School Music Association held two Area All State Festivals in November. The Junior High Area All State Festival took place at Akron Central School on Nov. 4 and 5. Westfield flutist Kaitlyn Meegan was selected by audition last spring to play in the Junior High Orchestra. She is the daughter of Tim and Cindy Meegan, and her private flute teacher is Nicole Zenns. Senior Iain Cockram, son of Steve and Karin Cockram, was selected through his audition last spring as the principal — and only — tubist for the Senior High Orchestra. The Senior High Festival was held on Nov. 18 and 19 on the SUNY Fredonia campus. These students competed against other school musicians from schools in Chautauqua, Erie, Cattaraugus and Niagara Counties for positions in the Area All State groups. Both students spent Friday night and most of Saturday rehearsing with their respective groups under the baton of a special guest conductor. Concerts for family and friends were presented in the afternoon on Saturday. Congratulations to these students and their families on their musical achievements.
