Holly Eliason set a school record at Woodcrest Golf Course as the Sherman girls’ cross country team defeated Frewsburg and Ripley Tuesday, Oct. 25. Eliason’s record time was 14.58 besting the previous record of 15.05 by Kaylee Harvey of Jamestown in 2003. Rebecca King finished second, Michele Damcott third, Katie Pacy fifth, Katie White sixth, Rebekah Anderson 12th and Jaclyn Smith13th, as the girls dominated the race.
The boys’ team won with Ryan Carpenter in first, Jordan Boland second, Treavor Gleason fifth, Nathan Ottaway11th, Stephen Walzak 21st and Bryon Tenpest 24th.
Coach Downey recorded his 550th victory with this meet.
SCS wins at Silver Creek
Last Monday, the Sherman Central School varsity girls’ and boys’ cross country teams defeated Silver Creek, Ripley, Frewsburg and Gowanda.
The victories gave the girls’ a 12-6 record for the season. The boys’ team finished 9-9.
Holly Eliason finished with a first place finish while Ryan Carpenter earned “Runner of the Week” honors in the Jamestown Post Journal with a second place finish.
Sherman now looks forward to the Section VI competition on Nov. 4.
