Lexie Momberger, daughter of Dave and Holly Momberger, and Emily Parker, daughter of Alberta and James Parker, were selected for the All State Women’s Chorus. Maggie LeClair, daughter of Nina and Bill LeClair, was selected for the All State Mixed Chorus. Iain Cockram, son of Steve and Karin Cockram, was selected to be a member of the tuba section in the All State Symphonic Band.
These students prepared Level 6 NYSSMA solos and performed them at the NYSSMA Solo Festival in Jamestown last spring. Their performances at this festival served as their audition for the All State groups. Students from all over New York State compete for spots in these groups, and it is a distinct honor to be selected. The students will spend several days at the NYSSMA Conference in Rochester rehearsing together, and concerts will be presented on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 3 and 4. Distinguished guest conductors from all over the country are brought in to work with these groups and present the final concerts.
The selection of the three vocalists represents a long and continuing tradition of Westfield vocalists participating each year at All State. After getting close two years ago with a Westfield bassoonist being put on the alternate list, Iain Cockram is the first Westfield band student to be a part of an All State instrumental group in nearly 20 years.
