The Westfield Retiree Golf League traveled to Gospel Hill Golf Course on Monday, Sept. 12 with excellent weather conditions. It seemed like they played on two separate courses as the front nine was short and the back nine was 1/3 longer.
It was a tight match. Jim Sudol’s 73 net, Gary Nash’s 74 net and Trenny Jordan’s 76 net gave them a one-shot victory over the team of Jim Quinn, Vinny Paternosh, Jeff Greabell and Ray McKinney. Tied for third place, just four strokes out of first place, were two teams with 227: Jeff Wagner — tourney low net of 69 — partnered with Gary Farley, net 77 and Al Monk, net 81 and John Barone, score not used; and Sam Arcadipane, net 71, Jim Quinn, net 77, Doug Rothwell and Jesse Marino, who each shot 79 nets.
Low gross scores were: Wagner and Phil Young, each of whom shot identical scores of 82; McKinney with 87; and Sudol with 89.
There were seven skins. There was just one skin on the front nine. Marino had a birdie three on hole no. 3. On the back nine were six skins: Doug Rothwell on holes no. 10 and 16; Todd Swanson on hole no. 11; Wagner on hole no. 12; Young on hole no. 13; and McKinney on hole no. 18.
Most fours on the scorecard was Wagner with eight.
Most fives on the scorecard was Monk and Marino with eight each.
Most sixes on the scorecard was Marino with seven.
The next, and final, event will be held at Green Meadows Golf Course in Harborcreek, Pa. Hot dogs, hamburgers and snacks along with a soft drink will be furnished by the course at the end of nine holes and at the end of 18 holes in scramble format. Each golfer will be given a length of string based on that person’s handicap to be used to save strokes.
Players are requested to arrive at the Moose parking lot by 8:15 a.m. to be able to get ready for 9:30 Green Meadows starting time.
