After today’s retiree scramble, a bench donated by the retirees was dedicated to the memory of Tom Sciarrino. Attending this ceremony were his widow, Pat, and many good golfing friends. Tom Sciarrino started the retiree golf in or around 1982 upon retirement from his teaching career. This bench will be placed on hole No. 4 at the Pinehurst Golf Course, to be appreciated by golfers for many years to come.
Things are getting a little “cut throat” at the end of the season. Bob Loketiek placed his monies into the cup to be entered for “closest to the pin” prize. However, as luck would have it poor Loketiek placed his quarter into the coffee cup of Dick Furman by mistake. When discovered, Furman simply drank his coffee and kept the quarter. Talk about a bad day.
Closest to the pin on No. 7 was Jess Marino and on No. 4 Jim Higginbotham. Our end of season picnic will be held Sept. 22, immediately after the scramble.
First place with five under par: Marino, Higginbotham and Keith Rothwell.
Second place with four under par: Furman, Butch Joint, Vinny Paternosh and Sam A.
Third place with two under: Ray Lewis, Steve Woleben, Dave Holser and Harry Barton.
Fourth place with two under: Dennis Shively, Bill Christ and John Jones.
Fifth place also with two under: Todd Swanson, Trenny Jordan, Bob Rogers and Gene Noble.
Sixth place with one under: Jeff Greabell, Jim Quinn, John Aldredge and Bert Baker.
Seventh place at even par: Bill Cole, Mel Allen, Loketiek and John Ellison.
