I was so pleased to read the recent article in the Westfield Republican regarding the Brocton arch by longtime Ripley resident, Francis Royce. As a small child and young teenager I, too, remember the arch with its white lights during the year and Christmas lights during the holiday season. My cousins lived a block from the arch so we had to pass under it to reach their home on Main Street. Upon reading the article I placed a call to Francis Royce and reminisced about the arch. I, along with many county residents, look forward to the 100th anniversary of the arch celebration in 2013 and the 200th birthday of the Town of Portland. Thank you Mrs. Royce and thank you Brocton for all that you are doing to restore this iconic piece of memorabilia that was and probably still is the only structure of its kind between here and California. I hope that the kind gesture made by Francis Royce will interest others in offering their support, too.
