NORTH HARMONY — An East Amhurst man was committed to the county jail after allegedly backing into a parked car while intoxicated.
According to the sheriff’s office, on Saturday, July 30 at 10:45 p.m. it was reported Timothy M. Maher, 47, of East Amhurst allegedly backed his vehicle into a parked car and left the scene while at a parking lot of Camp Chautauqua on Route 394 in the Town of North Harmony. An investigation located Maher at a camp site and he was allegedly found to be intoxicated. The investigation also showed that Maher had a passenger less than 15 years old in the vehicle. No injuries were reported
Maher was arrested and charged with unsafe backing, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, driving while intoxicated and felony aggravated DWI. He was arraigned and committed to Chautauqua County Jail with bail.
RIPLEY — Four occupants were assisted to safety after their boat drifted into shallow water.
According to the sheriff’s office, on Tuesday, Aug. 2 at 3 p.m., a vessel operated by Daniel Sehnke, 66, of Northeast, Pa., became disabled in Lake Erie off the Town of Ripley. The owner was unable to operate the vessel due to a mechanical failure and it drifted into shallow water in the area of RJ’s Campground. The owner and three passengers, Candylo Sehnke, 63, of Northeast, Pa., Kevin Sehnke, 55, of Las Vegas and Li Ping Sehnke, 48, of Las Vegas, were assisted by a good Samaritan from the campground. They were able to hold the boat off the rocks until the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the scene. The four occupants were assisted up a cliff to safety, and the vessel was recovered by members of CCWET and CCSO navigation division.
HARMONY — An Ashville man was charged with four counts of petit larceny.
According to the sheriff’s office, on Wednesday, Aug. 3 at 7 p.m. it arrested Curtis E. Hewes, 25, of Open Meadows Road in Ashville for a series of incidents investigated during the months of June and July of 2011. Hewes allegedly stole money by writing illegal checks from a local business where he was previously employed in the Town of Harmony.
Resulting from these incidents, Hewes was charged with four counts of petit larceny and he will appear in Harmony Town Court later in August to answer the charges.
CHAUTAUQUA — Two vehicles collided at the corner of Plank Road and Route 430 in the Town of Chautauqua.
According to the sheriff’s office, on Friday, Aug. 5 at 12:15 p.m. Brandon R. Hilton, 17, of Mayville was traveling south on Plank Road when he allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign at Route 430. Ronald E. Krisanda, 49, of Dewittville was traveling east on Route 430 with two 16-year-old passengers. Hilton’s vehicle struck Krisanda’s vehicle in the middle of the intersection. One of Krisanda’s passengers had a minor hand injury and was treated at the scene.
Hilton was ticketed and is to appear in Chautauqua Court on a later date.
