The accident happened just two minuets after a clerk had finished with the last of several customers and left the cash register when the car hit the building. According to Jody, the store is usually quite busy at that time of day and they were very thankful no one was injured.
The driver had backed up and hit the pole behind her and, being excited, hit the gas pedal and ran into the store. At 7 p.m., the workmen had almost finished temporarily covering up the hole. The store was still open and busy with customers.
