SHERMAN — A Sherman man has charges pending after his car struck a utility pole.

According to the sheriff’s office, on Tuesday, June 14 at 5:15 p.m., deputies responded to a one vehicle personal injury motor vehicle accident on Klondyke Road in the Town of Sherman. It was reported that a dark colored sedan was allegedly traveling at a high rate of speed, lost control and left the roadway where it struck a utility pole and an embankment. The operator, identified a John M. Schmitz, 18 of Klondyke Road in Sherman, was ejected from the vehicle and transported by Starflight to Hamot Medical Center in Erie, Pa., for injuries sustained in the crash.

It is alleged that alcohol was involved and charges are pending following an investigation.

BROCTON — A Brocton woman was issued a uniform traffic ticket for driving while intoxicated drugs.

According to the sheriff’s office, on Wednesday, June 15 at 10:30 a.m., patrol responded to a reported reckless vehicle operation on Route 5 in the Towns of Dunkirk and Portland and into the Village of Brocton. The suspect vehicle was located by patrol at 44 East Main Street and subsequent investigation led to Sandra M. Hall, 51 of Lake Avenue in Brocton being charged with DWI drugs.

She is scheduled to appear in Brocton Village Court at a later date. The investigation is continuing.

PORTLAND — A Fredonia man was charged with driving while intoxicated.

According to the sheriff’s office, on Thursday, June 16 at 8:15 p.m., deputies stopped Joseph D. Cettell Jr., 22 of West Main Road in Fredonia for a violation of the vehicle and traffic law on Route 20 in the Town of Portland. Upon further investigation, Cettell was allegedly found to be operating the vehicle while intoxicated.

Cettell was issued traffic tickets for speeding, open container in a motor vehicle, DWI, DWI per se blood alcohol content 0.08 percent or higher and will answer them in Portland Town Court on a later date.

HARMONY — Two Panama females were ejected from their ATV during a personal injury accident.

According to the sheriff’s office, on Friday, June 17 at 7:15 p.m., a 17-year-old female from Panama was allegedly operating an ATV with Sarah R. Clark, 19, of West Main Street in Panama as a passenger when the ATV rolled over, causing both occupants to be ejected. The youth sustained only minor scrapes and bruises, but Clark was flown by StarFlight to Hamot Medical Center in Erie, Pa., for an apparent serious leg injury.

Both females were not wearing helmets at the time of the accident.

SHERMAN — A Sherman woman was charged with fourth degree criminal mischief.

According to the sheriff’s office, Theresa A. Mckillip, 29, of Sherman was allegedly involved in a dispute with another person at her residence, 3101 Sherman-Clymer Road in Sherman where Mckillip allegedly damaged the other person’s vehicle.

Mckillip was arrested, charged with fourth degree criminal mischief and will appear in Sherman Town Court on a later date.

WESTFIELD — A Dunkirk man was arrested for driving while ability impaired by drugs.

According to the sheriff’s office, on Friday, June 17 at 9 a.m., deputies responded to an erratic vehicle operation complain on the Westfield Sherman Road in the Town of Westfield. When they arrived at the scene, the vehicle, operated by David J. Gizowski, 53, of Doughty Street in Dunkirk, was stopped on the side of the road. Deputies allegedly found that Gizowski was impaired by drugs.

Gizowski was arrested for driving while ability impaired by drugs and later released. He will appear in Westfield Town Court at a later date.
