Chicken and biscuit dinner

The Kiwanis International Club will be hosting a chicken and biscuit dinner on Saturday, June 18 from 4 to 7 p.m. at St. Dominic’s Church, 15 Union Street in Westfield. Pre-sale tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for children ages 6 to 12, and children 5-years-old and under are free. Tickets are available at 35 East Main Street or from any Kiwanian. Take-outs are available.



Arts and Crafts

on the Lake

The Second Annual Arts and Crafts on the Lake will take place at Zebro’s Harbor House, 8254 First Street, Barcelona, Westfield on Saturday, June 18 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sunday, June 19 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. A variety of craft items including, jewelry, beach glass jewelry, quilts, quilted items, candles and much more will be available. Father’s Day Breakfast Buffet in Brocton

The ladies auxiliary of John W. Dill Post No. 434 are sponsoring an all you can eat Father’s Day Breakfast buffet. The breakfast will be held from 8 to 11 a.m. on Father’s Day June 19 at the Legion located on route 20 in Brocton. Buffet items will include pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, fruit and many other breakfast favorites. Tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for children 10 and under, and free for children 5 and under. Tickets will be available at the door or from any auxiliary member.

AARP driver safety

class in Brocton

Due to numerous requests and because of the popularity of the first class, the Ahira Hall Memorial Library is offering a second AARP Driver Safety evening class this summer in its desire to serve community needs. The class will run June 21 and 23 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Please note this is a Tuesday/Thursday class. Those interested may stop in at the library located at 37 West Main Street in Brocton to sign up. While there, check out all of the other programs the library offers to the community. Registration can also be done over the phone by calling 792-9418 for those who cannot sign up in person. For those who sign up, but are unable to attend, call and cancel your reservation ad no-shows keep other people from attending the class. The preferred method of payment is by check made payable to AARP. Fees are $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members. Anyone having trouble sitting for long periods of time may wish to bring a seat cushion. The class, though intended for the senior driver, is open to any licensed driver of any age and will reduce insurance costs and license points.

Strawberry Social

in Portland

The Portland Congregational Church will hold its annual Strawberry Social at the church on Wednesday, June 22. Dinner will include beef on weck, hot dogs, salads, beans, strawberry shortcake or strawberries and ice cream. Take-outs available.



Sat., July 9

Westfield Class of 1981 Alumni Dance

An Alumni Dance hosted by the Westfield High School Class of 1981 will be held at Eason Hall on Elm Street in Westfield on Saturday, July 9 from 8 p.m. to midnight. Music will be provided by D.J. Felony Entertainment. Tickets are available pre-sale and at the door.

Westfield to host circus

On Saturday, July 23, the Kelly Miller Circus will be in Westfield at the NorthLake Family Recreation Center for performances at 2 and 5:30 p.m. This is an all new show, but in the traditional “old style” circus featuring elephants, camels, ponies, juggling, amazing cycling, acrobats, clowns and a cast of international circus stars. The show will go on rain or shine — you will no get wet under the big top.

Ever wanted to see elephants raise a circus tent? What does a camel’s foot look like? How much water will an elephant really drink? Come to NorthLake between 7:30 and 9 a.m. on July 22 to see the animals be unloaded and fed and watch big top go up.

Big Apple Adventure Vacation Bible School

Get your bags packed to go to a big “city.” The trip is sure to be full of fun adventures, all enjoyed while learning some amazing truths about Jesus. So dust off your camera, fill up your gas tank, load your car and come on over to the Brocton Baptist Church at 35 W Main Street in Brocton. Join in a week of Vacation Bible School, Big Apple Adventure, on Sunday, June 26 through Thursday, June 30 from 6:30 to 8:15 p.m. All children ages 4 through 18 are welcome. Community Day and Car Show in Ripley

The Ripley Hose Company, Ripley Hose Company Auxiliary and Ripley Hose Company Explorers will sponsor the third annual Community Day and Car Show on Saturday, August 20 at the Ripley Firemen's Field in Ripley. Events include a craft show and silent auction from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and a chicken barbecue starting at noon and running until food is sold out. There will also be hot dogs, hamburgers and "fireman" fires. In addition, a Schwan's Truck sale will take place with the profits going to the sponsoring organizations. A Car Cruise-In will begin at 11 a.m. and go until 3p.m. A $5 donation will be collected at the gate for the “Cruisers.” Door prizes and trophies will be awarded.
